Michael Caine likes the sausages from our town
BOSTON’S bangers might have cropped up on a rather fancy dinner table this Christmas – after it was revealed that a very famous actor had developed a taste for the Lincolnshire delicacy.
The great-tasting sausages from Boston have reached far beyond Yellowbelly stars such as Jim Broadbent and Jennifer Saunders to become the favourite of another famous face – Hollywood star Sir Michael Caine.
The veteran actor – famed for roles in Alfie and The Italian Job and a string of other box office hits – has become a fan of bangers from Boston Sausage, after sampling the produce on offer at the local shop’s stall at Borough Market in London.
He has told staff at the stall that he had heard good things about Boston sausages.
Daniel Mountain, who runs the family business with brother Sam and dad Robert, said: “He said he had heard a lot of them and he was looking forward to them very much. He’s been twice now.
“He had a cap on and he didn’t really want to be recognised. We have a few celebrities.”
Other famous fans of the Boston banger include former politician Ann Widdecome and actor Dexter Fletcher.
Boston Sausage may be set for more national recognition after being selected to appear on ITV show Countrywise Kitchen between Christmas and New Year.
Daniel and his family have been filmed in Boston and at the stall in London, showing all aspects of the production of the tasty sausages and haslet which the High Street store is famed for.
The show is set to go out on December 28.
Daniel said: “Lincolnshire sausage is some of the best that you can get. The one thing you think of when you think of Lincolnshire food is sausage. It’s nice to show things that people appreciate.”
Boston Sausage has been established in the town since 1852. The Mountain family took it over in 1904.
Daniel, who is the fourth generation of Mountain’s to run the shop said: “My grandfather would be very proud.”
